ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Jennifer McGuire

Jennifer McGuire is a happily married mother of two daughters and two sons. Since graduating university with a Bachelor of International Business majoring in Economics, she has worked in leadership roles in major corporations for over 25 years. While on parental leave after the birth of each of her children, she undertook further study through Advanced Diplomas in Project Management, Export Management and Frontline Management to ensure she stayed at the top of her game and progressed her career. She and her husband have made an effective team, with him thriving as a stay-at-home dad for five of those years.

Jennifer has always believed in investing in youth and has been inspired to lead with her coaching and mentoring skills to provide school leavers a traineeship to lead to future job opportunities.  She finds it deeply rewarding when previous trainees reach out to seek career advice or ask her to be a reference.

Jennifer is a strong believer in on-the-job training and studying as a part of career development.  She has been recognised with the Australian Institute of Management’s Manager of the Year and Rio Tinto Global Leadership Talent awards.

Jennifer has a successful track record of challenging male executives to encourage diversity in the workplace.  She has created and contributed to many equal employment opportunity initiatives over the decades.  For example, during a presentation in which she was recommending a paid parental leave policy, she asked a production manager how he would feel if he fell pregnant.  To imagine if he was the person who had been gifted with a uterus and had a baby.  To think about how he would feel when he returned to work and his employer couldn’t guarantee his previous position because of the lack of a parental leave policy which meant he had to take a step down in his career by returning in an assistant capacity. This struck a chord by making the entire male management team consider how the absence of such a policy affected their female employees, and so the policy was approved.

When she first started in Big Industry almost 30 years ago, Jennifer wore men’s gloves, trousers, shirts and boots that were all unfit for purpose as they were so large that they enveloped her feminine body.  Over the years, Jennifer has championed income parity between male and female employees performing the same job, set up female amenities to encourage mothers to return to work, and mentored many young women starting out their careers.

In authoring this book, Jennifer hopes it will encourage young women to require, particularly male executives to provide a safe and respectful place to work.  She has had ENOUGH!

Jennifer believes that many of society’s issues would be resolved if more men were involved in raising children to the degree women are, allowing women to be equal actors outside the home.
